Transitioning Patient Information Leaflets from Print to Pixels – Insights from South Africa
27 May 2025 | 13:00 | Geneva Switzerland
The Global Self-Care Federation (GSCF) advocates for a future where e-leaflets are used exclusively, recognizing the dual system as a transitional phase. This approach is particularly promising for low- and middle-income countries, where digitalization can provide a leapfrogging opportunity. E-leaflets offer a cost-effective way to deliver up-to-date information to consumers, ensuring accessibility and relevance.
This webinar will focus on the benefits of e-leaflets and its role in empowering consumers to self-select and self-administer NPM mostly in the absence of a healthcare practitioner. Through their OTC Online Directory the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) have been championing delivery of information on non-prescription medicines digitally. This webinar will examine existing practices in South Africa, provide insights into the “paper to pixels pilot” programme commencing later in 2025, and discuss how regulation is structured.
APSMI/GSCF Webinar: Healthcare Through a QR Code: How E-labelling Can Bridge Access Gaps For Patients In Asia Pacific
22 May 2025 | 08:00 | Geneva Switzerland
As the Asia Pacific (APAC) undergoes a rapid digital transformation, many countries are actively embracing e-labelling to improve access to quality and reliable health product information such as Taiwan and China, allow the use of dual system wherein e-leaflets are allowed in addition to the paper forms while e-labelling is not allowed in countries such as Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore. The adoption of e-labelling stands to benefit all patients and healthcare professionals, and will reduce the environmental impact of paper labels and supply chain bottlenecks. Currently, implementation is low across the region but improving with more countries developing regulations and expanding pilots to include OTC products. This webinar will focus on the benefits of electronic labelling and its role in empowering consumers to make the right choice in self-care products, the call to action/next steps required within APAC to advance e-labelling.
