Unlocking the Power of Prevention: Self-Care for Sustainable Health Systems

20 May 2026 | 18:30 | Geneva Switzerland

This private discussion will convene a small group of senior global health stakeholders, including representatives from Member States and key international organisations, to examine the critical, yet often under-recognised, role of self-care in prevention.

The roundtable builds on the momentum of our recent Geneva Forum held in March and will feature  new insights on prevention and self-care presented by health economists Professor Uwe May and Professor Cosima Bauer. It will provide an opportunity for an open, strategic exchange on how simple, evidence-based interventions—such as oral health, tobacco cessation, sun protection, hygiene, sexual and reproductive health products, disinfection, insect repellents, and antimicrobial creams—combined with health literacy, professional guidance, self-management, and emerging technologies, can significantly reduce disease burden.

Despite their proven value, these interventions remain insufficiently integrated into the broader prevention agenda. This discussion aims to address that gap.

This discussion will:

  • Explore practical pathways to strengthen prevention through self-care
  • Gather high-level insights and recommendations
  • Inform a forthcoming report to be launched at the OECD on 22 June

Limited participation, invitation-only.

Self-Care and Men: A Critical Gap in Health Policy and Practice

19 May 2026 | 08:00 | Geneva Switzerland

On the occasion of WHA79, together with Global Action on Men’s Health and Opella, GSCF is hosting a high-level roundtable focusing on men’s health and self-care.

At the centre of our upcoming roundtable is the launch of “Advancing Men’s Self-Care: A Global Health Policy Imperative” - a new report that addresses the urgent need for systemic change in men's health and self-care policy.

As men’s health issues gain global prominence, the event provides a platform for policy, research, and healthcare leaders to explore the report's key themes: mitigating risk-taking behaviours, strengthening national policy frameworks, and leveraging community pharmacies. As health services become increasingly overstretched, improving men’s self-care must be an essential part of the response and a key step towards the achievement of universal health coverage and better health for all.

With moderation from Greg Perry, Director General, Global Self-Care Federation.

Limited participation, invitation-only.

Selfcare as a Frontline Tool Against AMR

18 May 2026 | 14:00 | Geneva Switzerland

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the most pressing global health challenges, with significant implications for health systems, patient outcomes, economic resilience and equitable access to effective treatment. At a time when governments and global health stakeholders are looking to strengthen pandemic preparedness, advance implementation of commitments on antimicrobial resistance, and improve access to healthcare, there is a growing recognition that responsible self-care and health literacy can help support appropriate prevention and more resilient community level care.

Co-hosted by the Global Self-care Federation, Reckitt and the Commonwealth Pharmacist Association on Monday 18th from 2pm-3:30pm, this roundtable will bring together high level representatives from governments, permanent missions, multilateral health stakeholders, the private sector to discuss how self-care can contribute to national and global responses to antimicrobial resistance. The discussion will explore practical policy approaches to prevention, including WASH, health literacy and in support of cross sector collaboration in support of resilient health systems.

The event will also provide an opportunity to exchange views of key global health policy discussions, including the 5th Ministerial meeting on antimicrobial resistance.

Limited participation, invitation-only.
