We're hiring for the Product Stewardship and Environmental Sustainability Lead at GSCF.

Position: Full time with flexible working arrangement 

Reports to: Director General

Location: Flexible but compatible with CET working arrangements.

 

Position Description

The Product Stewardship and Environmental Sustainability lead, leads the association’s work with a primary focus on ingredients stewardship including scientific assessment and responsible management of ingredients used in self-care products.

The role drives both reactive and proactive management of ingredient related issues- coordinating responses to emerging challenges while strengthening the scientific credibility regulatory preparedness and long term sustainability of ingredients. 

It also covers selected aspects of environmental sustainability and chemicals policy particularly where these intersect with ingredients including engagement with global institutional stakeholders and evolving policy frameworks.

In parallel the role contributes to advancing the Charter for Environmentally Sustainable Self-care supporting industry initiatives new pledges and ensuring alignment with global discussions on interlinkages between ingredients sustainability and planetary and human health.

Through these two complementary areas of work, the position helps strengthen the industry’s commitment to safe, sustainable, and responsible self-care products.

Job Responsibilities

  • Proactive Ingredients Strategy & Thought Leadership: Lead proactive work and the development of strategies on ingredient stewardship by monitoring emerging scientific and regulatory developments and contributing to industry positions, policy briefings, and thought leadership on ingredient safety and responsible use.

  • Ingredients Stewardship & Issues Coordination: Oversee industry coordination on ingredient stewardship, including the implementation of the protocols and alignment with members and other industry sectors on emerging ingredient-related issues affecting the industry.

  • Member Coordination & Industry Alignment: Facilitate collaboration among member companies, national and regional associations, and expert groups to ensure alignment on key ingredient-related priorities. This includes management of the ingredients committee and its specific task forces. 

  • Stakeholder Engagement, Committees & Partnerships: Lead engagement with global regulators, institutional stakeholders and partner organisations to advance industry priorities on ingredients stewardship, overseeing relevant committees and consolidating members positions. 

  • Environmental Sustainability, Partnerships & Industry commitments: Support the implementation and evolution of the charter for Environmentally Sustainable Self-Care including the development of new pledges, while engaging with key stakeholders and partners (e.g. UNEP, WHO, OECD) to advance industry perspectives on sustainability and climate related topics.

  • Packaging Policy & Sustainability: Support industry engagement on packaging sustainability and policy developments, including collaboration with organisations such as RecyClass, CiPPPA, and CEFLEX and contribute to initiatives such as the recycle ready blister packaging roadmap. 

Basic Skills & Requirements 

Education: Advanced degree in Science, Environmental Studies, Chemistry, Sustainability, Public Policy, Law, or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • 7–10 years of relevant professional experience in environmental sustainability, chemicals policy, public policy, or industry association work, preferably within the medicines or related sectors.
  • Strong understanding of global policy developments related to chemicals management, environmental sustainability, climate-related policies, and packaging.
  • Experience engaging with international institutions and policy processes, such as UNEP, WHO, OECD, the Global Framework for Chemicals, or similar multilateral or regulatory bodies, and working with industry stakeholders to develop common positions.
  • Proven experience coordinating multi-stakeholder initiatives, including industry working groups, expert committees, and cross-company collaborations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build consensus, represent industry perspectives, and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders across industry, policy, and scientific communities.

    • Excellent drafting skills, with proven ability to produce high-quality documents independently.
    • Experience managing committees, expert groups, and multi-stakeholder processes.
    • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
    • Sound business acumen and understanding of industry perspectives.
    • Confident representation skills in international and institutional settings.
    • Self-sufficient, proactive, and able to balance leadership with hands-on delivery.
    • Fluency in English is essential; other languages (especially French, Spanish, or Arabic) are an advantage
