We're hiring for the Regulatory and Scientific Affairs Lead at GSCF

Position: Full time with flexible working arrangement 

Reports to: Director General 

Location: Flexible but compatible with CET working arrangements 

 

Position Description

The Regulatory and Scientific Affairs Lead advances the association’s work on global regulatory and scientific policy issues affecting the self-care health industry sector.

The role focuses on advancing science-based regulatory frameworks that support access to safe and effective self-care products.

The role also supports development on risk-appropriate registration and regulatory reliance, promotes proportionate regulatory approaches for self-care products, and contributes to initiatives such as digital health (including e-labelling) to modernize regulatory systems.

Key areas of work include coordinating industry engagement in international regulatory initiatives such as the International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) and relevant World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, facilitating collaboration across a global network of regulatory and scientific experts.

Through coordination with member companies, national and regional associations, and institutional stakeholders, the role consolidates industry positions and supports effective advocacy on regulatory and scientific matters affecting the global self-care industry.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of evidence-based positions on key regulatory issues affecting the self-care sector, including approaches related to risk-appropriate registration and regulatory reliance mechanisms.
  • Oversee the development of strategic intelligence and knowledge resources for GSCF members based on research, evidence gathering and analysis of emerging regulatory and environmental topics.
  • Foster cross-committee collaboration by working closely with the Ingredients and Policy Committees to identify and address regulatory implications of emerging issues and ingredient challenges.
  • Manage and overseethe work of GSCF regulatory affairs committees and its task forces, facilitating alignment among members and advancing regulatory priorities related to non-prescription medicines and food supplements.
  • Manage and oversee GSCF’s engagement with the International Council for Harmonisation (ICH), coordinating industry expertise and supporting scientific contributions.
  • Lead and oversee strategic initiatives to improve access to self-care products in regions (as needed), including legislative frameworks and regulatory reliance.
  • Oversee and coordinate engagement with key global stakeholders (e.g. WHO, AMRH, ICMRA, PIC/S, regional regulators and partner trade associations), consolidating GSCF member inputs and representing industry perspectives.

Basic Skills & Requirements 

Education: Degree in Science, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Regulatory Affairs or a related technical discipline.

Experience:

  • 7–10 years of professional experience in regulatory affairs, scientific policy, or product regulation.
  • Proven experience analysing regulatory developments and drafting scientific or regulatory documents.
  • Experience working in international and multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Professional Competencies
    • Advanced negotiation, diplomacy and stakeholder alignment skills.
    • Ability to operate effectively in a dual role combining operational execution with external representation.
    • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate expert input.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages are an advantage.
