Document EB158/30

GSCF recognizes the WHO Global Nutrition 2030 targets on maternal, infant and young child nutrition.

To be on track with 2030 impact targets, policy makers and health systems worldwide must prioritize the provision of micronutrient supplements, as referenced in the 2025 WHO topical briefs on maternal, infant and young child nutrition. Vitamin and Mineral supplementation are a high-impact, cost-effective public health investment with benefits for maternal, infant and child nutrition, and beyond:

  1. Equity & Inclusion: vitamin and mineral supplementation supports vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and children
  2. UHC Contribution: vitamins and minerals support lower healthcare costs via preventive supplementation
  3. NCD Prevention: Iron, folate, iodine, calcium and micro-nutrient supplementation supports reduction in anemia, maternal mortality and preterm birth which leads to lifelong NCD risk reduction
  4. Health System Resilience: vitamin and minerals improve population immunity and pandemic and crisis preparedness.
